Daraybi earned TDN Rising Star status after a blistering score at Chantilly last July, but failed to build upon that debut effort last term, finishing fourth in the Sept. 8 G3 Prix la Rochette at Longchamp and third in the G3 Pris des Chenes back there Sept. 21. The homebred bay opened this campaign with a Mar. 30 conditions win at Saint-Cloud, slipped to fifth in the Apr. 13 G3 Prix de Fontainebleau back at Longchamp and lined up here coming off a second in the Listed Prix de Pontarme at Saint-Cloud once more May 19. Keeping the leaders within range from the outset here, he eased to the front on the bridle approaching the final furlong and quickened clear in good style to secure a belated first black-type success. “Daraybi has a lot of natural speed and that is why we decided to try him over this shorter trip,” explained trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre. “I think he has proved his point in very good style and this faster ground is what he really likes. Of course we will now try to go higher and the [G3] Prix de Ris-Orangis at Deauville [June 28] is a very good possibility for him.”
