The TDN Topic is a new feature for the TDN, designed to examine a topic in racing from several different angles, and then seek comment from our readers. In each TDN Topic, we ask people with different perspectives—from both inside and outside the sport—to comment on a hot-button issue. Today, we start with whipping.

9th at GPXGII Davona Dale S. ($200K)  [1 1/16m]Winner: Onlyforyou, f, 3 by Malibu Moon
ONLYFORYOU (f, 3, Malibu Moon--Erhu, by Tactical Cat) handled an extra 1 1/2 furlongs with aplomb as the even-money choice to remain unbeaten from four attempts. A 2 1/2-length debut graduate at the Big A Nov. 10, the Todd Pletcher trainee cleared her first-level allowance condition going six panels here Dec. 15. She defeated Aurelia’s Belle (Lemon Drop Kid) handily in the GII Forward Gal S. over an additional furlong Jan. 25, and loomed large here. Straight to the front while kept a firm grasp of by Javier Castellano, the bay shook loose from House Rules (Distorted Humor) in the stretch and had two lengths on that rival at the line despite drifting out a bit. Aurelia’s Belle was third. The winner, Castellano’s fifth of the day and Pletcher’s fourth, stopped the timer in 1:43.71. Lifetime Record: 4-4-0-0.
