The Joan Scott barn is off to a flying start at Tampa Bay Downs, winning with six of its first 16 runners, and the streak continued yesterday when Robert Berger's Abou (f, 3, Distorted Humor--Polish Flower, by Danzig) ran to 4-5 favoritism to open her account at first asking. A half-sister to 2011 GIII Illinois Derby winner Joe Vann (Silver Deputy), Abou jumped on terms and was well held by jockey Antonio Gallardo through an opening quarter mile in :23.20. She took some token pressure to her outside from Rebecca Rusch (Majestic Warrior), but had that one hard at work nearing the stretch. Second choice Cowgirls in Heaven (Gottcha Gold) tried to make a race of it entering the final furlong and a half, but Abou had all the answers and reported home about a length to the good. Abou, bought back for $67,000 as a KEESEP yearling, fetched $155,000 at last year's FTMMAY sale. She covered the six furlongs over a fast main track in 1:12.57. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $14,400.
