8th at SAGII Strub S. ($200K)  [1 1/16m]Winner: Shakin It Up, c, 4 by Midnight Lute
The lightly raced Shakin It Up (c, 4 Midnight Lute–Silver Bullet Moon Vindication, by Vindication) made only three trips to the post during his sophomore campaign. The dark bay started off last term with a victory in the GII San Vincente S. here Feb. 17 before finishing fourth to his 3/4-brother and today’s runner-up, Governor Charlie in the GIII Sunland Derby Mar. 24. Finishing off the season with a score in the GI Malibu S. at this oval Dec. 26, he was dispatched as the 3-1 chalk for this 4-year-old debut. Shakin It Up broke on top, but was immediately angled in to the rail and rated back to a tracking third under the patient hands of Hall of Famer Mike Smith through opening splits of :23.98 and :47.06. Taken wide in the backstretch, the dark bay was sent after the leaders approaching the turn for home and engaged in a duel with stablemate Governor Charlie in the lane. Shakin It Up cruised clear of that rival late and hit the wire two lengths ahead making it a Bob Baffert/Midnight Lute exacta. Hear the Ghost (Ghostzapper) checked in third. The final time for the 1 1/16-mile GII Strub S. was 1:41.86. Lifetime Record: 7-4-1-1, $487,600. Click for the chart or VIDEO.
