9th at GPXGIII Dania Beach S. ($100k)  [1m (T)]Winner: Mr Speaker, c, 2 by Pulpit
Phipps homebred Mr Speaker (c, 2, Pulpit--Salute, by Unbridled), a 10-1 shot, shot through an opening along the rail and spurted clear in deep stretch to take the GIII Dania Beach S. by three lengths at Gulfstream Saturday. The dark bay colt, coming off a maiden win over the Belmont lawn Oct. 14, was taken in hand soon after the break and settled near the back of the pack as Bon Accord (Showing Up) took the field through fractions of :47.57 and 1:11.50. Mr Speaker inched closer down the backstretch and angled to the rail nearing the turn. Forced to wait for room under a patient Jose Lezcano, the dark bay colt burst through an opening along the rail in the final furlong and powered clear. He completed the mile in 1:36.60. Cabo Cat (Kitten’s Joy) rallied on the outside to be second and Pleuven (Fr) (Turtle Bowl {Ire}), last for much of the contest, closed to be third in his U.S. debut. Out of MGSP Salute, Mr Speaker is a grandson of champion Personal Ensign (Private Account). Lifetime Record: 4-2-0-1, $119,880. O/B-Phipps Stable (Ky). T-Claude R McGaughey III.
