Dazzling in the G2 Coventry S. at Royal Ascot June 18, War Command gave less in the way of pizzazz here but still managed to stamp his authority on proceedings and reward 10-11 favorite backers. Last seen winning The Curragh’s G2 Futurity S. Aug. 24, the imposing bay raced in fourth early and after grinding his way past the 20-1 shot Cable Bay (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) with a furlong remaining stayed on to score by 1 1/4 lengths, with Outstrip (GB) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) 1 1/2 lengths behind in third. “We were worried about the ground, but he got away with it,” trainer Aidan O'Brien said. “He’s an unbelievable specimen to look at physically, with his movement and power and strength and he is relaxing now. Maybe he's gone a bit lazy when he gets to the front, but the season has been long. The War Fronts we have had are very strong with great minds who have a lot of class. When they have that, it’s magic.”
