The TDN Topic is a new feature for the TDN, designed to examine a topic in racing from several different angles, and then seek comment from our readers. In each TDN Topic, we ask people with different perspectives—from both inside and outside the sport—to comment on a hot-button issue. Today, we start with whipping.

Still a maiden but supplemented after a latest promising third in the Listed Prix Joubert over 12 furlongs at Saint-Cloud last time Sept. 16, Ebiyza came off second best here before being promoted past Chalnetta (Fr) (Oratorio {Ire}) by the stewards. Settled behind that rival early towards the front, the 12-1 shot was bumped by the eventual winner inside the final 100 meters and after losing out by a head was deemed to have been unlucky by the course officials. Galvaun (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) was a length further back in third.
