, who was bought back at auction not once but three times, earned his diploma in this first try around two turns. A close-up third at 5-2 odds in his unveiling going six panels at Belmont July 12, Bashart left the gate as the 6-5 pick and was kept in the clear three wide as he pressed the pacesetters. Jockey John Velazquez sent him to the front in upper stretch and, after kicking clear, he gamely held Arctic Slope (Van Nistelrooy) safe by a length. Storming Inti (Stormy Atlantic), who exchanged several hard bumps with Arctic Slope in the lane, was a compromised third. Bashart RNA’d for $65,000 as a KEENOV weanling in 2011; for $185,000 as a KEESEP yearling in ‘12; and for $195,000 this spring at KEEAPR after working an eighth in :10 2/5
. Bashart was in utero when his dam Busy Windsong was hammered down to Gabriel Duignan for $90,000 at the 2011 Keeneland January Sale. Bashart is a half to Squallcreek (Storm Creek), SW, $151,913; and Catch Wind (Mr. Greeley), GSP-Ity. Busy Windsong did not produce a foal in 2012 and had a colt by Discreet Cat this year. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-1, $58,000. Click for the brisnet.com chart or VIDEO.
