Discreet Marq, winner of the GII Sands Point S. at Belmont May 27 and stepping out of a dominating win facing New York-breds in the Eventail S. downstate July 4, shipped to California and collected a first top-level success here for owner/breeder Patricia Generazio. The gray homebred, who usually plies her trade on the front end, was coaxed off the lead by Julien Leparoux and was a bit headstrong early as she tracked in third before settling on the backstretch. Loaded for bear as they rounded the far turn, Discreet Marq, at 9-2, tipped wide for the stretch run, made the front at the 3 1/16ths pole, and was full of run in the lane, outfinishing Wishing Well by 1 1/4 lengths. Emotion Kitten, looking to become the fourth Grade I winner on the day for her sire and owner/breeders Ken and Sarah Ramsey, finished third.
