4th at DMR  [5 1/2f (AW)]Winner: Can the Man, c, 2 by Into Mischief
4th-DMR, $75,000, Msw, 2yo, 5 1/2f, 1:03 4/5, ft.
+CAN THE MAN (c, 2, Into Mischief--Smolensk {MGSW-Fr, G1SP-Eng, $227,383}, by Danzig), the $320,000 BESMAY sale topper, was no secret at 1-2 and registered a professional debut win. Breaking alertly post two, Can the Man was nonetheless out-footed by Maximinus (Roman Ruler) and relinquished the lead to that one after the opening furlong. Moving well in the slipstream of the pacesetter as longshot Confisio (E Dubai) came to his outside, Can the Man was able to muscle his way out in upper stretch and, after hitting the front soon after, edged away to win by 2 1/2 lengths. Confisio held for second. Can the Man, a half to Martha’s Moon (Malibu Moon), SW, $100,790, was also a $40,000 KEENOV weanling and a $60,000 FTKOCT buy-back. The colt hails from one of the best families in the stud book. His 23-year-old dam Smolensk is a daughter of GI Kentucky Oaks heroine Blush With Pride (Blushing Groom {Fr}) and is thus a half to Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour (Deputy Minister), dam of the Classic winners Rags to Riches (A.P. Indy) and Jazil (Seeking the Gold). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $45,000. Click for the chart or VIDEO.
