Yes I’m Lucky topped a one-two finish for the Eddie Plesa stable and remained perfect in three career starts in the process. A debut winner going 4 1/2 furlongs of this main track June 2, he was sent on relatively short rest to Calder for the Frank Gomez Memorial S. and plundered that test by four front-running lengths. Already precocious and speedy enough, he was being switched to the infield, and had every chance to take to the surface, as his dam was one of the most prolific turf sprinters in South Florida of her time, with no fewer than seven black-type wins going short on the grass. Neatly away from the inside, Yes I’m Lucky made the lead, but soon had company from a pair of rivals to his outside. Still on a long rein from Paco Lopez approaching the lane, he may have been relegated to third for a stride or two, but punched back gamely inside his stablemate to remain unbeaten. “I was very pleased with the way both my horses ran,” Plesa, who sent out this year’s GI Preakness S. runner-up Itsmyluckyday (Lawyer Ron) to a third-place finish in this race a year ago. “Yes It’s True horses don’t necessarily like the turf, so I was hoping for [Yes I’m Lucky’s] mother’s side to kick in. He ran great. Barring anything unforeseen, they’ll both be back in the
[Sept. 1 GIII] Sapling.” Click for the chart or VIDEO.
