   Authenticity has certainly proven worth the wait after missing all of her 5-year-old season. A 17 1/2-length victress in a Gulfstream optional claimer Feb. 14, the Padua colorbearer followed a runner-up effort in the GIII Rampart S. Mar. 30 with a game tally in Churchill’s GII La Troienne S. May 3. She responded with another courageous performance in Belmont’s GI Ogden Phipps H. May 27, earning a career-best 103 Beyer while second-best to Tiz Miz Sue (Tiznow). Scratched from a showdown with Royal Delta (Empire Maker) in the GI Delaware H. in favor of this easier spot, the heavy favorite stalked Sea Island through an easy half mile in :50.80. With John Velazquez aboard, Authenticity
turned up the heat as they straightened for home, fought her way to the front in the stretch, and was never seriously threatened late by the runner-up. “We had a favorable post and we felt like we were either the speed of the race or could let it unfold inside us,” trainer Todd Pletcher said. “She got in a good stalking position and a comfortable rhythm. I think it was a good effort from her. She’s a total professional.” Pletcher continued, “It’s been really hot the last few days and we felt like shipping to Delaware could maybe compromise her later in the year. We have a favorable setup here at Saratoga; we love to win here and maybe this sets her up well for the [GI] Personal Ensign [Aug. 25].”
