A two-time winner over all-weather tracks in five European starts for trainer Jeremy Noseda, Infinite Magic defeated Admiral Kitten in a second-level allowance over the Keeneland turf Apr. 14 before ballooning to finish last of nine in the GII Peter Pan S. over a sloppy Belmont main track May 11. He was back on the grass for his latest, the June 15 GIII Hill Prince S. at Belmont Park, but he took a bump at the break, got very far back and rallied late to split the field in sixth. A ground-saving third while just off the heels of longtime leader Mongolian Saturday (Any Given Saturday), Infinite Magic got his cue from Channing Hill and was steered off the fence to attack from the two path turning for home. He knifed through between a weakening Mongolian Saturday and Dorsett (Artie Schiller) passing the midstretch marker and clung to dear life late to stave off bids from favored Admiral Kitten and New York-raider Stormy Len. The winner is bred on a cross rarely seen in this country, but wildly successful in Australasia. Horses bred like Infinite Magic include Group 1 winners Perfectly Ready (Aus), Benicio (Aus) and Sebring (Aus), to name but a few. The American Derby serves as the final local prep for the GI Secretariat S. over 10 furlongs Aug. 17.
