Lightly-raced by Luca Cumani so far, Emirates Queen was moving up in trip here after a latest sixth in the G2 Middleton S. over an extended 10 furlongs at York May 16, and thrived for the extra distance to register a career-best. Previously, the half-sister to Dubawi (Ire) had managed a second in the Listed Lyric Fillies’ S. over that track and trip last July, and had been out on only two occasions to little effect prior to her latest effort. Held up early by Andrea Atzeni, who was taking over from Kieren Fallon after that rider was sacked by the owner-breeder in mid-week, the bay raced keenly before settling in fifth under cover. As Albasharah struck at the head of affairs, she was being extricated in behind and came with a strong staying rally between that rival and Moment In Time with 100 yards remaining en route to a decisive score. The trainer’s son and assistant Matt Cumani said, "It’s been such a long time coming, but she really has matured even though she can still be tricky, as she showed when she was reluctant to come back into the winner’s enclosure. We’ve always thought a lot of her and with her looks and pedigree we thought maybe we were over-rating her, but today she has showed her quality on the track. The G1 Yorkshire Oaks would be the main target, but it’s not until Aug. 22, so it’s still some time away."
