Medaglia d'Oro's So Brilliant Gets Back to Winning Ways

8th at BHP  [6 1/2f (AW)]Winner: So Brilliant, c, 4 by Medaglia d'Oro
8th-BHP, $57,000, Alw, Opt.Clm, 3yo/up, 6 1/2f (AWT), 1:15 4/5, ft.
SO BRILLIANT (c, 4, Medaglia d’Oro--Merry Me in Spring {SW, $134,260}, by Wekiva Springs) made a successful return to the races after eight months on the sidelines. The handsome gray made a winning debut at Santa Anita back in October of 2011, then added the GIII Hollywood Prevue S. in his very next start a month later. But he was forced off the Triple Crown trail by injury, and wasn’t seen until running fourth in a Santa Anita optional claimer last Oct. 6. He was fourth again in a similar test 22 days later, and went missing once again. Off as the second-longest shot on the board at odds of 6-1 here, he raced in between rivals in the early going before emerging as the lone pace pressure on Doyouseemecoming (Put it Back), who set solid splits. So Brilliant began to get the better of that foe in upper stretch and pulled away to a smart 2 1/2-length decision. Doyouseemecoming held second, with Gladding (Sarava) in third. So Brilliant was a $190,000 KEESEP weanling, a $200,000 FTKJUL yearling and a $300,000 FTFFEB purchase. Lifetime Record: 5-3-0-0, $50,676. Click for the brisnet.com chart or VIDEO.
