The TDN Topic is a new feature for the TDN, designed to examine a topic in racing from several different angles, and then seek comment from our readers. In each TDN Topic, we ask people with different perspectives—from both inside and outside the sport—to comment on a hot-button issue. Today, we start with whipping.

1:10 2/5, ft.
MY SWEET ADDICTION (f, 3, Tiznow--Healthy Addiction {GISW, $1,032,837}, by Boston Harbor) hadn’t been seen since finishing a distant second to “TDN Rising Star” and recent GI Acorn S. heroine Midnight Lucky (Midnight Lute) in their respective Santa Anita debuts Feb. 16. She showed a solid string of local drills in the interim, and was off as an even-money gamble while breaking from the rail. Slowest to begin, the homebred wanted to do more in last early as a pace duel developed up front. Full of run, but with nowhere to go turning for home, the bay was guided to the rail by Mike Smith. A seam failed to materialize up the inside, so the Hall of Famer tipped his mount out into the three path and she gobbled up ground to nip Tappingintherain (Tapit) by a head. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $42,400. Click for the brisnet.com chart or VIDEO.
