Obviously announced his presence with a three-race winning streak last term, including the GII Del Mar Mile H. Aug. 26 and the GII Arroyo Seco Mile S. at Santa Anita Oct. 6. The speedy bay gave a valiant showing on the big stage with a respectable third behind heavyweights Wise Dan (Wiseman’s Ferry) and Animal Kingdom (Leroidesanimaux {Brz}) in the GI Breeders’ Cup Mile Nov. 3. Freshened, Obviously resurfaced with a runner-up effort in the GIII San Simeon S. going down the hill Apr. 20, then returned to the winner’s circle over the course-and-distance GII American H. May 25. Taking his customary spot on the lead here, he led by five lengths through a half mile in :46.38, and was never seriously threatened by the runner-up while punching his ticket to the GI Breeders’ Cup Mile. “We'll definitely run in the [GII] Del Mar Mile H. [Aug. 25],” trainer Mike Mitchell said. “I'll sit down with [owners Anthony Fanticola and Joseph Scardino] and discuss what's next for him after that. The main goal is to run back in the Breeders' Cup Mile. I turned him out last year for no problems, just to freshen him. He's razor sharp right now. He's training so well and he looks so good. I think he's better than last year. He's stronger and a little bit more filled out.”
