20th at NAS€15,500 Boston Access Race (Cond)  [1m (T)]Winner: Darwin, c, 3 by Big Brown
Naas, 20.00, Cond, €15,000, 3yo, 1mT, 1:35.42, gd/fm.
DARWIN (c, 3, Big Brown--Cool Ghoul, by Silver Ghost), labeled a "TDN Rising Star" after his winning debut for Todd Pletcher at Belmont in October, was last seen finishing fourth in the GII Nashua S. over a mile at Aqueduct Nov. 4 and was sent off the 11-10 favorite on his first outing for Ballydoyle despite carrying a seven-pound penalty in this three-runner affair. Anchored in a detached last by Joseph O’Brien early, the imposing bay moved smoothly to lead passing the quarter pole and was kept up to his work late on to beat Fighter Squadron (Medaglia d’Oro) by 2 1/4 lengths. "He’s an exciting horse," O’Brien said. "That was his first race on grass and his first on a track like this with an uphill finish. He was quite green, which was understandable, but is a lovely colt." Darwin is a half-brother to Bad Boy Rising (Freud, SP, $150,434); and Dagnabit (Freud, MSW, $243,938). Sales history: $220,000 yrl ‘11 FTSAUG; $1,300,000 2yo ‘12 FTFFEB. VIDEO, courtesy attheraces.com. Lifetime Record: 3-2-0-0, €49,300.
