Charlie Em was a steady performer while racing in Europe, winning two of her first six starts for trainer Richard Fahey, including a claiming stakes over the Wolverhampton all-weather in August. Transferred to Brendan Powell, the bay captured a Pontefract handicap Oct. 22, and concluded her overseas campaign with a close third in the Listed Campanologist Cup at Hanover Nov. 4. Acquired privately by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and moved to the Paddy Gallagher barn, Charlie Em was given Lasix for the first time in her U.S. bow here. Charlie Em sat a stalking trip in second through fractions of :23.50 and :47.01, hit the gas on the far turn to gain a narrow advantage at the top of the stretch, and fought off all challengers to register a career high. "I've had her probably since November or December," Gallagher said. "It took her a little while, but she came around in the last five weeks. She got rid of her winter coat and started acting and training nice. She breezed a couple of times on the [Betfair Hollywood Park] grass and seemed to go nice." Aron Wellman of Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners added that the victress could be headed to the GII Honeymoon H. June 8.
