The TDN Topic is a new feature for the TDN, designed to examine a topic in racing from several different angles, and then seek comment from our readers. In each TDN Topic, we ask people with different perspectives—from both inside and outside the sport—to comment on a hot-button issue. Today, we start with whipping.

5th at CDXMsw ($45k)  [6f]Winner: Stage Street, c, 3 by Street Sense
5th-CDX, $47,556, Msw, 3yo/up, 6f, 1:10, wf.
STAGE STREET (c, 3, Street Sense--Tale of a Lady, by Tale of the Cat) made a successful sophomore debut Saturday at Churchill, setting a searching early pace before just staving off Captain Davrick (Discreet Cat) for a half-length victory as the 6-5 chalk. Favored in his June 1 bow going 4 1/2 furlongs over this main track, he led clear into the stretch, but was tagged late and settled for second. He filled the same spot behind Park City (Harlan’s Holiday) in a sloppy Saratoga maiden July 27, and was single-handedly responsible for the trouble incurred by Revolutionary (War Pass) in a Sept. 3 maiden at the Spa. Drawn on the fence that afternoon, he broke outward, slamming into Clawback (Put It Back), who, in turn, broadsided the WinStar runner to his outside. While his affected rivals finished second and third, respectively, Stage Street ended up fifth and was having his first run since. Sales history: $50,000 RNA yrl '11 KEESEP; $300,000 2yo ‘12 KEEAPR. Lifetime Record: 4-1-2-0, $59,860. Click for the chart or VIDEO.
