Nevis, who ran fourth at The Curragh in his first go July 1, broke through in good style at Leopardstown July 19 and closed his juvenile campaign with a sixth to Dawn Approach (Ire) (New Approach {Ire}) in the G1 Vincent O’Brien National S. back at The Curragh last time Sept. 15. His task in this seasonal return was made easier by the late scratching of Greatwood (GB) (Manduro {Ger}), but he grasped the opportunity with relish to add another string to Aidan O’Brien’s Classic bow. Nevis seized control soon after the break and set an even tempo in the driving rain until the straight. Rowed along with three furlongs remaining, he was safely clear entering the final quarter mile and maintained a relentless gallop under continued urging in the closing stages to register a first black-type score by daylight. "He handled the conditions well and it’s probably as bad as he would want it, but he traveled nicely and lengthened all the way to the line," said winning rider Ryan Moore. "All the rain came in the last half hour and it would have been nice to see him on quicker ground as I think he’d prefer that." Coolmore’s Kevin Buckley added, "The ground changing [to soft], which wasn’t anticipated, was far from ideal, but he handled it okay. [Trainer] Aidan [O’Brien] will get everything home, we’ll get the other trials out of the way and then we’ll see where we go from there."
