Secret Gesture stepped up from a promising second in her seven-furlong Leicester debut Oct. 9 to shed maiden status in taking style upped one panel at Newbury last time Oct. 27. The bay homebred was steadied off the pace in fourth until making easy headway into third on the home turn in this sophomore return. Making smooth headway on the bridle in the straight, she glided by the free-running Miss You Too passing the quarter-mile marker and drew off in hand thereafter to register a career high in near effortless fashion. "I’m not sure she has beaten much, but I’m very pleased with how she has shown up today," said winning trainer Ralph Beckett. "The ground will be different [at Epsom] in three weeks, but I can’t see quicker ground being any problem. I suppose [jockey] Jim [Crowley] has a tough choice between her and [Listed Pretty Polly S. victress] Talent, but I think it’s pretty obvious which one he’ll choose." Crowley added, "The way she did it, you’d have to be impressed and she has got terrific balance. The weather changing hasn’t helped, but she’s a nice moving filly and we’ve always thought quicker ground wouldn’t be a problem."
