Strathnaver graduated in her third start over the Lingfield synthetic in December 2011 and scored her next victory in the Premier Consulting Handicap S. going 7 3/4-furlongs over the turf there June 23. Unsuccessful in three subsequent starts in England, she crossed the pond and transferred from the care of Edward Dunlop to Graham Motion. In her only previous North American start, she won an optional claimer going 1 3/16 miles over the Gulfstream sod Mar. 16. After breaking from the 10th slot Strathnaver was content to rate off the pace in the two path for the first time down the stretch. As the field divided into two packs, the British import was unhurried in the latter grouping, running to the outside of Regalo Mia. Eight lengths off the lead entering the final bend, she shifted into gear quickly lowering that margin. As Strathnaver angled out six wide into the lane, Regalo Mia slipped up the rail to take command at the top of the straight. The GIII Orchid S. winner began to kick clear, but Strathnaver continued to rally down the center of the stretch. She sidled up to Regalio Mia late, running a few strides on even terms before she took a narrow advantage and kept on for her first graded win. "I thought she was very impressive that day at Gulfstream," said winning trainer Graham Motion. "Like I said to [jockey] Joel [Rosario], I just wasn’t sure about the mile and a half. But clearly she handled it pretty good."
