14.30 at NBYCond. ($21k)  [10f 6yds (T)]Winner: Contributer (Ire), c, 3 by High Chaparral (Ire)
Newbury, 14.30, Cond, £14,000, 3yo, 10f 6ydsT, 2:13.33, gd/sf.
CONTRIBUTER (IRE) (c, 3, High Chaparral {Ire}--Serisia {Fr} {GSW-Fr}, by Exit to Nowhere), who shed maiden status at Wolverhampton last time Nov. 16, was held up in last of the five runners until turning into the long straight here. Angled into the clear for preliminary skirmishes with a half-mile to go, the 7-4 second favorite laid down the gauntlet passing the quarter pole and kept on strongly for two flicks of Ryan Moore’s persuader inside the final furlong to comfortably account for Cruck Realta (GB) (Sixties Icon {GB}) by 1 1/4 lengths. "We hoped he’d win and we thought we’d find out if he was any good or not," said trainer Ed Dunlop. "He was ready to run, but I didn’t want to run him at Newmarket [this week], as the ground was too firm. Ryan [Moore] was quite impressed and said he blew up towards the end of the race. He was always going to improve, as we’d left a bit to work on. He liked the conditions, he looked to have taken it well and quickened well considering the conditions. I would never run him on very fast ground, and he’s not done much wrong so far. I think we’ll step up into stakes company and, if he took the race well, he may even get an entry in the [Apr. 26 G3] Sandown Classic Trial."
