A promising juvenile in 2011, Stopshoppingmaria earned "TDN Rising Star" status when she graduated by 9 3/4 lengths at Saratoga ahead of eventual GI La Brea S. winner Book Review (Giant’s Causeway). She was second behind My Miss Aurelia (Smart Strike) in the GI Frizette S. and behind Stephanie’s Kitten (Kitten’s Joy) in the GII Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf that year. Not quite living up to her auspicious juvenile for in 2012, she finished second in Monmouth’s Crank It Up S. last summer and fifth in a Saratoga optional claimer in August. She came back from a hiatus to win optional claimers here Dec. 14 and Jan. 18 in her most recent efforts. The favorite broke well and pressed pacesetter Rosa Salvaje down the backstretch. She challenged entering the stretch, gained the lead and cleared under urging. "She’s really worked out great at this meet," said winning trainer Todd Pletcher. "We were unsure of what her best distance would be. When she won the allowance race going five, we said, ‘Let’s try the next one,’ and that worked out well. I think she seems progressively better at it every time. I’m really proud of her. She’s a really accomplished filly at longer distances, but this seems this to be her forte. When we get back to New York, they offer six--and seven-furlong races--that might be within her scope," continued Pletcher. "We might even try her at a mile."
