Unbridled’s Note tested the Triple Crown waters in the early Oaklawn preps last year but, after being well-beaten in both the GIII Southwest S. and GII Rebel S., he took a three month holiday before dropping back to seven furlongs to score over the Churchill slop June 17. Third in Saratoga’s GII Amsterdam S. July 29, he filled the same position in the GI King’s Bishop a month later, and broke through for his first graded store when switching to the lawn for the GIII Eddie D. S. at Santa Anita Sept. 28. He returned to that track and trip for the GI Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint Nov. 3, finishing second, a half-length behind Mizdirection (Mizzen Mast). He rounded out his sophomore campaign with a third-place finish in the GI Malibu S. Dec. 26. The heavy favorite made all the running in his seasonal debut here, fending off a tenacious Chips All In on the outside and Tale of a Champion on the fence to put his nose on the wire in time.
