TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

A debut winner at Flemington Oct. 6, Kuroshio was third in the Inglis Debutants S. here 11 days later before hitting the bench. He resurfaced to be second behind Dissident going 100 meters shorter in the local prep for this last time Jan. 26, but was narrowly favored over that foe this time. Quickest away, the homebred pressed the pace in the clear and grabbed the lead from frontrunner The Bowler in the final 50 meters for a first group victory. Kuroshio is a granddaughter of November Snow, a MGISW in the U.S. who also produced the dam of Grade I winner Morning Line (Tiznow). His dam was purchased by John Ferguson for $600,000 at the 2001 Keeneland September Sale.

Guelph provided back-to-back victories for her connections at Caulfield Saturday, bringing conditioner Peter Snowden his 998th Australian win for Sheikh Mohammed’s operation. A Warwick Farm graduate last time Jan. 26, Guelph was content to bide her time in fourth early as stablemate Montsegur made the early running. She came to even terms with that runner 100 meters out, and pulled clear from there for a sharp tally. Guelph is the first foal from 2007 G1 Sires’ Produce S. heroine Camarilla, who was also victorious in this event.
