ORB (c, 3, Malibu Moon--Lady Liberty, by Unbridled) faced tough competition early in his career, finishing third behind subsequent GI CashCall Futurity winner Violence (Medaglia d’Oro) on debut at Saratoga Aug. 18. He fourth at Belmont Sept. 8 and again at Aqueduct Nov. 10 behind Viyjack (Into Mischief), who would go on to take the GII Jerome S. Orb graduated last time out at Aqueduct Nov. 24. The 2-1 second choice was held at the back of the pack early and moved up on the outside entering the turn. He challenged at the top of the lane and finished up well to remain a length ahead of Duke of the City (Bernardini). "It was the first time I was able to get him stretched out around two turns," noted winning trainer Shug McGaughey. "When I brought him down here this winter, I said ‘He might be a nice horse when we get him back to Aqueduct this spring.’ I’m very pleased today." Lifetime Record: 5-2-0-1, $81,050.
