TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

Delaunay continues to impress since being claimed from PTK LLC and trainer Dane Kobiskie for $40,000 out of a winning effort at Churchill Downs in May. He immediately rewarded his new connections’ investment with another victory under the Twin Spires in the Kelly’s Landing S. a month later before suffering what would turn out to be his last loss when fourth in Mountaineer’s Senator Robert C. Bird Memorial S. Aug. 4. He earned a 101 Beyer Speed Figure when upending heavy favorite Gantry in Louisiana Downs’s Temper Hill S. Sept. 8, and replicated that figure with a 5 1/2-length romp back in Louisville Nov. 3. The bay earned a 103 Beyer last time when he bested Gantry again by 2 1/2 lengths in the track-and-trip Thanksgiving H. Nov. 22. Pursued by Hamlitonian through swift splits of :21.44 and :44.12, Delaunay remained straight and strong in the long Fair Grounds stretch for a super-sharp tally.
