Nefertini kicked off her 4-year-old campaign with an upset of Fantasy of Flight (Tiznow) on the inner track here in March, and she got the money again as that foe disappointed at 3-5 odds. Victorious three starts later in the May 27 Monmouth Beach S., the bay was fourth in the July 29 GII Molly Pitcher S. in Oceanport and was coming off a third-place finish in the Oct. 27 GIII Turnback the Alarm H. at Belmont behind Thanksgiving's GII Falls City H. heroine Afleeting Lady (Afleet Alex). Pulling hard while facing towards the turf course in the early stages, Neffertini pressed the favorite through splits of :23.99 and :46.92. She came to even terms with the leader on the bend before easily leaving her in the dust entering the stretch. Soon confronted by second choice Willet, Nefertini dug in gamely, refusing to be passed in the run to the line. "I was very close to the speed," noted rider Alan Garcia. "[Trainer Alan Goldberg] said to put her right in the game. [Willet] came to me, and [Nefertini] was fighting and didn't want to get beat."
