Sadamu Patek, second behind champion Orfevre (Jpn) (Stay Gold {Jpn}) in last year's G1 Satsuki Sho, captured the G2 Keio Hai Spring Cup earlier in the year and was coming off an eighth-place finish in the G1 Tenno Sho (Autumn) in October. Fourth choice in the field of 18, Sadamu Patek settled in mid-pack early while hugging the rail. Tipped out for running room into the stretch, the bay colt powered to the lead and just held off favored Grand Prix Boss.
