TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

Just the Judge cut a dash on her winning debut over seven furlongs at Newbury June 26 before beating the colt Excess Knowledge (GB) (Monsun {Ger}) in the Listed Washington Singer S. over that same track and trip last time Aug. 18. Bought into by Qatar Racing following that impressive success, the bay paid a quick dividend on that investment by stretching her unbeaten record to three here. Settled in sixth early by Michael Hills, she traveled strongly into contention approaching the quarter pole as the pace-forcers started to tread water. Hitting the front soon after, she was driven out to readily hold Nargys, who had been delayed with her run in behind, but who never looked likely to trouble the winner. "We had a little struggle to get here, as we wanted to run her in the Fillies' Mile and she wasn't showing the right signs," Hills said. "In the last 10 days, she put two good pieces of work together, and Charlie [Hills] was happy to bring her, so I think she's very good. She's maturing and developing in different directions, and when they do that, they can throw a little wobbly. She blew her coat and maybe she was just looking after herself at home. I've won this twice with two who were Guineas fillies, and I'll put her with them. We've had a bad year with all the rain and everything else, so I think we've done well to be where we are and we have some lovely horses for next year."
