Lines of Battle earned instant J
"TDN Rising Star" J status on debut in a six-furlong Curragh maiden which contained two subsequent Group scorers in Leitir Mor (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) and Probably (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) and a Group 1 runner-up in Designs On Rome (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) May 27, before being sent to Royal Ascot to contest the G2 Coventry S. Only sixth in a red-hot renewal of that June 19 staging post, the homebred just missed out by a neck when second to Grafelli (Ire) (Hannouma {Ire}) in the G3 Tyros S. over this trip at Leopardstown last time July 26. Fitted with first-time cheekpieces here, the bay was niggled along early to take a pitch in a sheltered third and after meeting interference on the turn found his way to the front with over a furlong remaining. Driven out from there, he drew away from the struggling pack, with only the Jim Bolger newcomer Hudson's Bay making any eyecatching progress in behind.
"He ran well last time, but we were disappointed he didn't win and he was too green and a bit lazy," winning jockey Joseph O'Brien explained. "He is genuine and the cheekpieces helped him."
