TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

Pataky Kid, dismissed at 42-1 in his career opener on the Churchill dirt July 1, did well after a bad trip to be third, albeit by 10 1/2 lengths. He made the switch to Polytrack by rallying to take a local maiden Aug. 9, and was the second choice here to Muppet Man. With jockey Garrett Gomez coming in to ride, the bay came away cleanly from the three hole and settled along the fence in third as Muppet Man went up to show the way. The 3-5 chalk turned for home after three-quarters in 1:11.57 and seemed to be travelling easily, but Pataky Kid came off the fence and rolled by him easily. Though he ducked out a bit after hitting the front, the Oklahoma-bred straightened himself out and bounded clear.
