TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Goldencents, who posted a series of strong five-furlong works in the lead-up to this unveiling, took the majority of the public's money and ran to his 8-5 odds. Breaking from the two hole under Kevin Krigger, the $62,000 OBSJUN graduate was ridden for speed and was soon in front through splits of :22 4/5 and :46 flat. As the rest of the field fanned out five wide into the stretch, he unleashed a blistering turn of foot to open up by five or six lengths sailed home clear by eight lengths. The final time of the race was a tick off Del Mar's 5 1/2-furlong track record. Fellow firster Wild Dude (Wildcat Heir) completed the exacta. Goldencents is the fifth winner for his freshman sire (by Harlan's Holiday). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0. Click for the brisnet.com chart or Video, sponsored by Taylor Made Sales.
