TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

Doubled, one of the most experienced members of the field with three previous starts, finished third on debut in a 4 1/2-furlong dash at Parx July 3, then came back to win by a nose in a similar test July 24. Moved to the grass for the local Colleen S., she ran an even third, and was looking to prove the public's 15-1 quote a disrespectful price in this return to the main track. The gray was outsprinted early--along with everyone else--as rank outsider Back to Class (Montbrook) bowled along through :21 2/5 and :44 2/5 splits while maintaining a big lead. As that one began to tire, I'mclassyandsassy looked like she'd race on by to victory on the outside, but a rail-skimming Doubled scooted on through leaving the furlong grounds and outfinished the chalk to win going away. "You always have doubts that she can catch the filly who was so far in front, but when I saw the half went in :44 and, with the way she closed on this track in the Colleen S., I figured she would close again today," explained winning trainer Cathal Lynch. "The further she goes, the better she is. She has a real great kick at the end." Click for the brisnet.com chart. Video, sponsored by Taylor Made Sales.
