Since being trained as a stayer at the start of last term, Fame and Glory came good when it counted when successful in the G1 Gold Cup and the G3 British Champions' Long Distance Cup at Ascot, but had also looked shaky when turned over at 1-3 in the Listed Irish St Leger Trial before finishing 23-lengths fourth in the main event itself at The Curragh. Punters could not make up their mind which Fame and Glory would turn up for this traditional prep for the Royal meeting, which he won 12 months ago and which predecessor Yeats (Ire) (Sadler's Wells) took on two occasions, and he was allowed to drift despite being sent off the marginal market leader over Unaccompanied. Racing in a close-up second early, the bay took up the running with over a mile to race and despite being strongly pressed by the second favorite in the final quarter mile, kept digging in to show his best form.
