TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

GEMOLOGIST POLISHES OFF WOOD

WinStar Farm's Gemologist (Tiznow) held off Alpha (Bernardini) to maintain his perfect record in the $1-million GI Resorts World Casino New York City Wood Memorial S. at Aqueduct yesterday afternoon. "That's a great win, he's a great horse," said Elliott Walden, president of WinStar. "This stamps him as a Derby prospect, which we're excited about. We needed the earnings today. More importantly, it puts him in our stallion barn, and that's what we look for is horses that we can bring home eventually. Winning a Grade 1 like the Wood Memorial, it's one the best races to win as a 3-year-old, so it's great that way as well."
