Trainer Steve Asmussen moved to number two for most wins all-time by a North American conditioner when Jake Jourdan (Ide) took race number four at the Fair Grounds yesterday. Asmussen had tied Jack Van Berg with 6,417 wins just minutes earlier when another one of his runners Cabe (Macabe) got up to take the third at Oaklawn Park. Both winners are also owned by Asmussen. "It feels very good," said the 47-year-old, who has finished atop the yearly North American win standings five times and won Eclipse Awards for Outstanding Trainer in both 2008 and 2009. "It’s obviously very significant and it proves we’ve been doing it a while, if nothing else. We’ll hope for a bunch more winners. Racing’s kind of a funny game, you know, and everything will be alright as long as the next one wins." The late Dale Baird has the most North American training wins with 9,445.
