Morrow Cove completed the exacta well behind eventual GI Mother Goose S. winner Zo Impressive (Hard Spun) sprinting at Gulfstream Jan. 22, and turned in a romping graduation of her own when stretched to a mile at that oval Mar. 9. She disappointed when sixth as the favorite in Oaklawn's Instant Racing S. Apr. 13, but bounced back with a 10 3/4-length route of allowance foes at Delaware May 19. She was subsequently purchased by Paul Pompa from Bortolazzo Stable and was making her first start in Pompa's white, red and green colors here. Dueling on the front end through a half in :47.44 as heavily favored two-for-two Moment in Dixie dropped surprisingly far off the pace, Morrow Cove shook free in upper stretch despite her earlier exertions and left the chalk with far too much to do in the lane. "She ran big; she's a nice filly," said Anthony Sciametta, assistant to trainer Todd Pletcher. "She had a little pressure, but you could see [rider Paco Lopez] had a lot of horse. You can see that she's got a good turn of foot."
