TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

Belle Royale put together a three-race win streak last summer and fall to end her European campaign for owner Peter Mort and trainer Mark Brisbourne. She resurfaced in the U.S. with trainer Simon Callaghan to win the Apr. 7 American Beauty S. with a near-last-to-first move in her stateside debut last time out. Looking to make it five in a row and to earn her first graded stakes victory, the dark bay filly was well back early. As the field made the turn into the stretch and sprinted to the line, it looked like it was between a pair of last-out graded winners Capital Plan and Quiet Oasis, but Belle Royale emerged on the scene late and rallied past them both. Callaghan and Rosario won the Gamely last year with Dubawi Heights (GB) (Dubawi {GB}).
