Successful in Newmarket's Listed Montrose Fillies' S. over a mile when last seen in late October, Coquet returned to stake a late claim for next Friday's G1 Epsom Oaks in this trial formerly known as the Lupe S. Settled in fifth early by Robert Havlin, the bay was allowed time to warm up in the straight and challenged up the inside of Gathering to lead with 100 yards remaining. Taken on by Minidress in the run to the line, she gradually asserted to book her place in the line-up for the Classic, where she will bid to emulate the 2010 heroine Snow Fairy (Ire) (Intikhab), who captured this en route. "She traveled well and picked up, then I think she might have blown up," trainer Hughie Morrison said. "She may not have the most ability, but she is certainly the toughest, as she looked big in the paddock. She doesn't have to do much between now and next Friday, but that run will have to bring her on a lot."
