TDN MAGAZINE, As the Science Gets Better, Catching the Cheats Becomes Easier: Part V of A Painful Truth: No matter the sport, cheaters have always stayed one step ahead of those trying to catch them by doping with as-yet undetectable products. But what if authorities didn't need to determine what the products were, only what the specimin should look like if unaltered by any drug? Meet the biological passport, and Travis Tygart, the man who has successfully routed out two of sports' most defiant cheats, Lance Armstrong and Marion Jones, neither of whom had ever tested positive. 17.55 at LNGEBF Fillies' Maiden S.  [6f (T)]Winner: Lovely Pass (Ire), f, 2 by Raven's Pass
Lingfield, 17.55, Mdn, £6,000, 2yo, f, 6fT, 1:11.48, gd/fm.
+LOVELY PASS (IRE) (f, 2, Raven's Pass--Macadamia {Ire} {Hwt. Older Mare-Eng at 7-9.5f, GSW-Eng, $312,142}, by Classic Cliche {Ire}) was sent off the 8-11 favorite to become the first winner for her freshman sire (by Elusive Quality), but after missing the break badly and swerving violently left out of the stalls seemingly ended her chance early. Recovering to tag onto the back of the field after the opening stages, the bay veered left again when asked to close by Silvestre de Sousa with a quarter mile remaining. Given three smacks with the whip to straighten her course, her class took her to the front with a furlong to race and into the clear en route to a highly impressive 2 1/4-length success from Desert Sunrise (GB) (Green Desert), the half-sister to the 1999 G1 Middle Park S. winner Primo Valentino (Ire) (Primo Dominie {GB}). Sales history: 65,000gns RNA yrl '11 TATOCT. Raven's Pass, winner of the GI Breeders' Cup Classic and G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. in 2008 under the tutelage of John Gosden, stood the 2012 season at Darley's Kildangan Stud for a fee of €22,500. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, £3,881. Click for the Racing Post chart or Video, courtesy attheraces.com.
