TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

Love and Pride rounded out her sophomore campaign with a pair of third-place finishes in the GI Gazelle S. at Aqueduct Nov. 26 and the Let Me Linger S. over the Big A's inner track Dec. 18. After romping over the same surface in the Affectionately H. Jan. 28, the dark bay was second-best to It's Tricky (Mineshaft) in the GII Top Flight H. Mar. 3. She faded to fourth in the GIII Sixty Sails H. at Hawthorne Apr. 21, and most recently lost a squeaker in the Allaire duPont Distaff H. at Pimlico May 19. The regally bred filly bounced out quickly to take her usual spot on the front end through splits of :47.71 and 1:11.75. Odds-on Tiz Miz Sue ranged up to challenge at the top of the stretch, but Love and Pride dug in gamely on the rail and, despite being reluctant to switch leads, forged clear late. Love and Pride's dam is a half-sister to champion and leading young sire Bernardini (A.P. Indy).
