10th at GPXGinger Brew S. ($100k)  [1 1/16m (T)]Winner: Candy Kitty, f, 3 by Lemon Drop Kid
Starlight Racing's Candy Kitty (f, 3, Lemon Drop Kid--Worthy Cat, by Tale of the Cat) rode the rails through the opening six furlongs of Sunday's featured Ginger Brew S. at Gulfstream Park, but found herself in a bit of a jackpot stuck behind horses entering the final furlong. But jockey Edgar Prado was able to get her to the outside and rallied outside of Stonetastic (Mizzen Mast) and inside of Miss Besilu (Medaglia d'Oro) before outfinishing the latter by about a length. Stonetastic, making her turf debut, held for third. Candy Kitty had a relatively busy freshman season, with a pair of wins from six trips to the post. The dark bay defeated Kitten Kaboodle (Kitten's Joy) to win her maiden at third asking at Saratoga Aug. 18, but was only fifth to another daughter of Kitten's Joy, Granny Mc'skitten in the P.G. Johnson S. 10 days hence. Fourth to Kitten Kaboodle in the grassy GIII Jessamine S. at Keeneland Oct. 9, Candy Kitty showed her versatility in taking an off-turf renewal of the Wait a While S. in the slop Nov. 30. A $185,000 Keeneland September yearling, Candy Kitty is out of a three-parts sister to the good turf mare Naissance Royale (Ire) (Giant's Causeway). Lifetime Record: 7-3-1-1. O-Starlight Racing. B-Jack Swain (KY). T-Todd Pletcher. Click for the chart or VIDEO.
