Progressing fast of late, Sapphire made a winning seasonal debut when blowing away the field in the G3 Noblesse S. over this course and distance June 17 before finding Izzi Top (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) 1 1/4 lengths too strong in the 10-furlong G1 Pretty Polly S. at The Curragh last time July 1. Stalking the pace in second on settling down here, the hot favorite took over on the bridle three furlongs from home and minimal encouragement was sufficient for her to storm clear and win unchallenged. Trainer Dermot Weld from
Irish Racing.com, "She is the first mare to win both the Noblesse S. and the Give Thanks S., and that is a nice double. She was very impressive and is a lovely, big staying mare, and there is lots to look forward to with her. The G1 Irish St Leger [at The Curragh Sept. 15] is next up, and we will take it from there. She is a stayer with speed, and she is a very adaptable mare. She is a big, galloping mare, and I think she will get one mile six furlongs at her ease. She is only getting going now, and she will be kept in training next year."
