TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

Beaten comprehensively by Harasiya despite a game front-running effort in the G3 Silver Flash S. over this trip at Leopardstown last time July 19, My Special J's reversed the form with that red-hot 2-5 favorite to shed her maiden tag here. Settled in a share of third with that rival early, the bay was sent to the front passing the quarter pole and was game as she held off the market leader in the run to the line. "She had done a piece of work yesterday morning that thrilled me, and I felt she had definitely come on, but I wasn't happy to see the rain," trainer Pat Shanahan said after greeting a Group 1 winner in his first season out of the saddle. "She'll have a break now after three hard races, and she'll probably go for the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac [at Longchamp Oct. 7], where hopefully she'll get better ground. The owner Jimmy Long is based in Dubai, so she could end up over there during the winter."
