+NOKAZE (f, 3, Empire Maker--Macarena Macarena, by Gone West), given an 8-1 chance for a trainer who hits with 8% of his firsters, overcame some traffic issues in the stretch to get up and graduate in this unveiling. Settled off the pace under Joe Rocco, Jr. the bay was able to secure a rail position and raced under cover as the nicely bred Nisbet (Unbridled's Song--Berbatim) set a comfortable pace. Nokaze began her rally in upper stretch, but was forced to steady when a hole closed abruptly. She recovered like a pro, however, and chased down a game Nisbet for the nose win. Nokaze was produced by a half-sister to GISW Sligo Bay (Ire) (Sadler's Wells) and is a granddaughter of the blue hen Ballade (*Herbager), dam of Devil's Bag, Glorious Song and Saint Ballado and, in addition to Macarena Macarena, also granddam of Rahy and Singspiel (Ire), et al.
