TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

Sweet Redemption, the lone first-timer in the field, belied her experience with a stylish maiden breaker. The Southern Chase homebred, under Luis Contreras, sat an ideal stalking trip as Lady Bear and Just Got In battled it out up front. Swung wide for the drive, she inched closer on the front pair, steadied off heels a bit at the furlong grounds, but continued her steady rally and got up in the final jump to take it by a neck over Just Got In. "She was just a little bit green down the lane," said Contreras. "But she just got it done. I like the filly." Trainer Gregory De Gannes was equally pleased with the performance. "It's always a leap of faith when you put a first-time starter in a 150-grander," he said. "But it all worked out." Click for the brisnet.com chart. Video, sponsored by Taylor Made Sales.
