TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

Dixie Strike, winner of last year's Ontario Lassie S. over the Polytrack, captured the Feb. 4 Florida Oaks over Tampa Bay's turf course before running fourth in the GIII Herecomesthebride S. and fifth in the GI Ashland S. The bay filly returned to the winner's circle with a 3 3/4-length triumph in the May 13 GIII Selene S. and followed a fifth-place effort in the June 3 Woodbine Oaks with a third-place finish in the June 24 Queen's Plate last time out. Making her first start on conventional dirt, Dixie Strike was allowed to settle into stride, inched closer on the turn and was fanned out six wide into the lane. She surged to the lead at midstretch and drew clear to the wire.
